History of Amiga

Summary

Jay Miner starts a company that later gets the name Amiga. Amiga starts with the development of its own console. In 1983 the video game crash begins and Amiga gets into trouble. Therefore, instead of a console, Amiga decides to develop a computer. This is how the Lorraine prototype is created.

At a consumer fair in 1984, Amiga introduced the prototype behind closed doors and representatives, including Atari and Commodore, were impressed. The Atari managers lend the company Amiga $500,000. The computer is now a joint project. Atari is in financial crisis from 1982 onward, which is why in 1984 they sell their console and computer department to Jack Tramiel, the dismissed founder of Commodore. Tramiel is also trying to buy Amiga over share shares for $0.98 per share, but Commodore will be awarded USD 4.25 per share. With this acquisition and product launch, Commodore overextends itself and enters a serious financial crisis.
