Number of published Atari-2600 games per year
This diagram shows the total of the games released per year for the entire production time of the Atari VCS/Atari 2600 (1977 to 1992).
After the first three years, during which only Atari himself produces games for the in-house console, Activision is the first third party in 1980. When it is clear in 1982 that software companies do not have to expect legal consequences from console manufacturers, the offer explodes. 121 titles from third-party providers alone appear this year, more than twice as many as Atari has released since the introduction of the Atari VCS. Atari takes part and produces 22 new games in just one year. 1983, in the year of the video game crash, a total of 203 modules appear. This oversaturation helps to cause the market to collapse. In the following years, there are only some new releases, from the end of the 80s games are produced preferred for the next generation of consoles.
