Atari SM monitors
Summary
In the mid-1980s, the 16-bit home computers replaced the 8-bit generation. This also ended the use of televisions as a computer screen, as commercial devices do not keep up with the technical progress in resolution and refresh rate.
With the launch of the Atari ST 1985 the SM124 monitor appears at the price of 498,- DM. The 12-inch screen manufactured by Goldstar until October 1991 shows monochrome 640 × 400 pixels sharp. A refresh rate of 71.2 Hz allows longer fatigue-free working. The price-performance ratio exceeds the competition on the home computer market. Thus, the SM124 and SM125 contribute significantly to the success of the Atari ST series. Later, with 14 inch screen diagonal and equal resolution, the SM144, SM146 and SM147 will follow. For the Mega ST and Atari TT models, the 19 inch SM194 and SM195 monitors will be added, representing 1280 × 960 pixels. The SC series of Atari offers color output.
