The Burial
The flops of Pac-Man and E.T. as well as the returns of other games that are no longer available on the oversaturated market ensure that Atari sits on millions of obsolete modules in 1983. In order to save storage costs, several truckloads were disposed of at a landfill in New Mexico in September 1983. The action, in which games, which were only a few months earlier at prices of over 20 dollars in the shops, end up on the garbage, is considered a symbol of the video game crash. For many years, the Atari Video Game Burial has the status of an urban legend, until 2014 an archaeological excavation is carried out on the site, which reveals hundreds of Atari games.
