Mobile Gaming – Generation 6
Starting in 2001, the handheld technology that has remained almost unchanged for ten years continues to move. Colour graphics and elaborate sound are now a standard, but due to the comparatively low computing power, the games are usually still two-dimensional.
Mobile phones become more common during this time, and for the first time there are handhelds who are not only toys, but also function as personal organisers, or, like the N-Gage, directly as telephones. In the course of this, some handhelds are now internet-enabled, and for the first time there is the possibility to purchase games as a download.
