Mobile Gaming – Generation 7
Nintendo is not the first manufacturer to install touchscreens in mobile consoles, but the first to sell the technology in a massive manner. DS sales – including all variants – exceed even Game Boy sales.
The only serious competitor Nintendos is Sony, who uses optical media as a medium for the first time with the PlayStation Portable (PsP) on a handheld and (unsuccessfully) tries to establish the device as a multimedia station on the go with a range of films.
Both consoles have microphones, later versions of the DS also have a camera. Otherwise, they are more and more similar in their functions to the parallel developing smartphones.
