Philips P4500
Summary
Between 1962 and 1992, Philips subsidiary Philips Computers developed computers and peripherals.
The Philips P4530 appeared in the early 1980s. Costing around DM 120,000, it was designed for medium-sized businesses. This decentralised data-processing system has magnetic disk storage and an IBM-compatible floppy disk drive. Its central CIP-1 processor has 256 KiB of memory, expandable to 1024 KiB at DM 12,000 per 128 KiB. Under its team-processor architecture, independent processors handle functions such as disk access, remote data processing and printing, allowing operations to run concurrently. A battery supply protects against power failures.
The basic configuration includes 3 P2753 screen terminals, a total of 240 can be connected. P2934 prints up to 600 lines per min., depending on the extension.
A popular programming language for the system is ANS COBOL 74.
