Peripherals of Generation 2
To play a console game, you only need the console itself, a module, a TV and a controller. Nevertheless, from the second generation onwards, countless accessories will appear, which either expand the experience for individual games or the console itself.
Implementations of arcade games play a major role at this time. These are always based on an optimally adapted, current hardware, while the consoles are unchangeable. For an authentic gaming experience they must therefore be retrofitted, with controllers that correspond to the models or technical gadgets such as modules for voice output. Most of these extensions only support a handful of games and are useless beyond that.
Another trend is the expansion of the console into a home computer, but all projects of this kind either fail or remain meaningless in terms of sales figures.
