Simulators

All successful games at the beginning of video game history are simulations, starting with tennis in Pong. Manufacturers of game hall equipment meet this early on and offer devices whose control elements are modelled on the originals. For home use, special controllers will soon appear that take over this feeling of play, but due to financial and spatial limitations, complex simulators involving the whole body remain a domain of arcades and professional training centers.

There, however, players have the opportunity to make an experience through recreated or even authentic cockpits, which makes them part of the game already decades before Virtual Reality.
