Consoles in the West

The video game crash destroyed the western console market. Mattel, Coleco and MB have withdrawn from the business, Atari can’t build on old successes with the Atari 7800, all other Western machines of this generation remain exotic. Instead, home computers such as the Apple II, the C64 or the ZX Spectrum prevail in the US and Europe and take on a role as inexpensive gaming machines that are also suitable for applications and can be programmed for themselves.
