Summary

Beatmania is a rhythm video game by Konami. It first appeared in arcades and two years later for PlayStation and PlayStation 2. Konami made special controllers with a disc for “scratching” and keys, resembling a DJ’s equipment. The first model has 5 buttons. Its successor, designed for PS 2, has 7 buttons because the more demanding games require two additional inputs. The controllers work on both PlayStation models, however, as they simply emulate a standard controller.

There are a few minor differences that indicate whether the controller comes from Japan or America. With the Japanese model, the corners are completely rounded, while with the American only at the left corners is the case. In addition, the latter has more stable and larger buttons. Fans know the controller for its toughness, as it has lasted until today since its release.
