Mattel Sub Chase

Summary

In Sub Chase, the player commands a destroyer and must sink a submarine. A bright LED represents the destroyer on the round playing field. The submarine is invisible; increasingly rapid beeps indicate its proximity. The Destroyer Control Key moves the destroyer in all directions, and the player can drop depth charges. Other submarines can fire torpedoes, which the player must avoid. Sinking a submarine earns points and causes the computer to generate another one. The game ends if a submarine destroys the destroyer.

Mattel is the second largest toy manufacturer in the world after LEGO. Barbie Ken Dolls and Hot Wheels are well known. Mattel Electronics was founded in 1977 and brought to the peak of the LED games between 1977 and 1983 different products to the market. The same game Submarine markets the Japanese toy manufacturer Bandai. A 9 volt block provides power to both devices.
