THE 1000 COLLECTION

Palm Pilot

Summary

The first handheld of Palm Computing (later a part of U.S. Robotics, then 3Com, then HP) is the Palm of 1996. It has a monochrome LCD touchscreen and a resolution of 160 x 160 pixels. The input is unique: Users need to learn the special typeface Graffiti. In doing so, you write characters for characters on the screen, which the palm then composes into words. The low price, and the ability to synchronize the data with a PC via a serial cable (HotSync), make the Palm a popular device.

Pilot 1000 and Pilot 5000 are the first models. More than 40 more models follow, later with color screen and internet access. The Palm OS operating system creates webOS, which HP stops in the wake of the overpowering competition between Apple and Android at the end of 2011.
