Philips CD-i 360
Summary
The CD-i (short for Compact Disc Interactive), which was released in October 1991, was a multimedia system developed primarily by Philips and partly by Sony. The system was ultimately marketed by Philips alone. The device was able to play so-called interactive compact discs, audio CDs and some other formats. For a stationary video game console there were disappointingly few “real” video games for the CD-i. Philips was never able to convince the public of the capabilities of the CD-i and so the production was discontinued in 1998 after Sony launched the cheaper and more powerful PlayStation.
