THE 1000 COLLECTION

The Great Giana Sisters

In 1987, Rainbow Arts released the Jump & Run game The Great Giana Sisters for the Commodore 64. The two developers Armin Gessert and Manfred Trenz (responsible for the graphics) and the composer Chris Hülsbeck develop one of the best games for the C64. A short time later versions for Amstrad CPC, MSX2, Atari ST and Amiga appear.

The game belongs in every game collection, but it is not long in trade. The first level of The Great Giana Sisters shows strong similarities with Super Mario Bros, which is also not hidden from Nintendo. Nintendo writes a letter and threatens to take legal action, which causes Rainbow Arts to stop selling — there is no trial.

The C64 game is rare today and a pearl for every collector. For other systems there are offshoots, for example for the handheld console Nintendo DS, whereby blows into the microphone controls the game figure.
