Didaktik Gama

Summary
The Didaktik Gama is a Czechoslovak copy of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, manufactured from 1987 by Didaktik in Skalica. The company had previously made Alfa and Beta school computers compatible with the PMD 85, and entered the home computer market with the Gama.
The Gama has 80 KB RAM: two switchable 32 KB banks and 16 KB of slower video memory, plus 16 KB ROM. An 8255 chip provides a Centronics port for printers and plotters and a Kempston joystick port. There are three versions: Gama ’87, ’88 and ’89. Bugs prevent BASIC from using the second memory bank on the ’87, while the ’89 offers the best compatibility with the original. The computer was expensive, but unlike Western computers it could be bought with Czechoslovak crowns, without going through the Tuzex foreign-currency shops. Production ended in 1992.
