Game Mate 2 Remote Control Wireless Joysticks
Summary
Already in 1982, long before the WaveBird or DualShock 3 controller, the first wireless joystick appears. This controller is mainly designed for the Atari 2600 (or the Clone Sears Video Arcade), but is also compatible with other systems, such as the Atari 7800 or the Commodore VC 20.
The first variant is released by Cynex under the name Game Mate 2 Remote Control Wireless Joysticks, the second by Atari a year later as Remote Control Wireless Joysticks (CX842). To connect the joysticks, the usual controllers must be plugged off and an additional receiver connected. The idea of comfortable and wireless playing is not fully implemented as planned, as the devices are very clunky on the one hand and relatively prone to error on the other.
