Nintendo GameCube Memory Card (59, 251, 1019)

Summary
Nintendo’s GameCube console has no permanent memory to store saved games. But there is a slot for memory cards that are available from Nintendo and other manufacturers. The Nintendo Gamecube Memory Card is a flash memory card that is available in three sizes (and colors):
| Memory card | Model Number | Memory | Color | Initial availability | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Memory Card 59 | DOL-008 | 4 MiB | Light grey | Japan, 14 September 2001 | 1400 yen |
| Memory Card 251 | DOL-014 | 16 MiB | Black | North America, 04.06.2002 | USD 19.95 |
| Memory Card 1019 | DOL-020 | 64 MiB | whiteish | North America, 07.06.2004 | USD 29.95 |
The memory card divides the area into blocks of 8 KiB each — one block is the smallest addressable unit. Different games occupy a different number of blocks, on average up to 15, but there are memory-hungry ones like FIFA, which can take over 50 blocks. The Memory Card 59 was the first memory card, but unfortunately with the small size quickly full. The memory cards with higher capacity are worth it, especially since the price/performance ratio is better. It is even cheaper with memory cards from other manufacturers, but there are always complaints from users that the reliability is not given.
