THE 1000 COLLECTION

Lane: computers · Area E · Section 9

Game culture and scene

This section gathers ideas for a further development of the concept. Which of these are implemented in a new exhibition depends on the chosen topics, the available material and the planning of the operator.

Making Design Visible

Design sketches, graphics and music can show how a computer game is created. Complementary materials from developers would be a possible extension of this area.

  • Media station: Building a game world from recurring graphic elements
  • Gaming station: Design your own small levels and try out different arrangements
  • Media station: Compare graphics and animations in different phases of their creation

The interactive offers are design suggestions for a new structure.

The culture around the devices

The existing books, magazines and Software provide starting points for topics beyond individual devices:

  • Readers’ letters, charts and trade fair reports as an insight into the use of the time
  • Music, demos and disc magazines as an expression of the home computer scene
  • Reports on the exchange and distribution of software
  • Interviews or additional documents on the work of development teams

For a new tour, suitable examples from the collection are selected and connected by explanatory texts or media offers.
