ColecoVision Expansion Module #1 Atari 2600 Module Converter

Summary

At its appearance in 1982, ColecoVision becomes a serious competitor for the Atari 2600. This situation worsens when Coleco develops the Expansion Module #1, an extension module with which Atari games can be played on the in-house console.

Atari moves to court, Coleco responds with a counterclaim, as the extension does not use any patented components. Finally, both parties agree on a payment of royalties by Coleco.

Finally, the extension of the Atari 2600 is less dangerous than is feared at Atari. Customers do not get two consoles at the price of one, since the price of expansion is only marginally lower than that of a used Atari 2600.

Soon afterwards, Coleco released another console, the Gemini: a fully compatible Atari 2600 clone.
