Atari Jaguar CD
Summary
The Jaguar CD drive is an accessory for the Atari Jaguar that plugs into its cartridge slot. The Jaguar CD has its own cartridge slot, allowing conventional Jaguar game cartridges to be used without removing the accessory. It came with two games, Blue Lightning and Vid Grid, the music CD Tempest 2000: The Soundtrack and a Myst demo CD. The built-in Virtual Light Machine generates different visual effects on the screen each time an audio CD is played.
Apart from these bundled products, only eleven titles were released for the CD system. The initial production run of 20,000 units sold out. It is unclear whether there was a second production run, as JT Storage took over Atari in 1996. The Jaguar CD was unsuccessful: some products reached the market with faults, and sales of the Jaguar itself were very low.
