Lambda Electronics DEF 3000

Photo: own photograph

Summary

The DEF 3000 is the version of Lambda 8300 distributed in France by Lambda Electronics from Hong Kong, a clone of the Sinclair ZX81. In Germany the same computer was available as Power 3000, in Scandinavia as Basic 2000. The hardware corresponds to the ZX81, but the ROM is changed so that not all ZX81 programs run. As a processor, a NEC D780C-1, a replica of the Z80A, works with 3.25 MHz; it has 2 KB of RAM, expandable to 16 or 32 KB. Unlike the model, it offers a video output and a joystick connector in the Atari standard. On the packaging he is advertised as “Micro Ordinateur Domestique”.
