Mattel Aquarius

Summary

The Aquarius is the home computer from Mattel Electronics, manufacturer of the Intellivision console. It was developed and built by Radofin in Hong Kong. Released in June 1983 for US$160, it has a 3.5 MHz Z80, 4 KB RAM, a rubber keyboard and a reduced version of Microsoft BASIC. Its technology was already considered dated. It lacks freely addressable graphics, and useful work requires additions such as the Mini Expander, memory modules and Data Recorder. Many games are adaptations of Intellivision titles.

Mattel stopped selling it in October 1983 and returned the rights to Radofin, giving it one of the shortest lifespans of any home computer. Radofin subsequently released a small number of Aquarius II machines.
