Philips P2000

Summary
Philips will launch the G7000 video game console on the market in 1978. From March 1980 Philips wants to build on the success with the home computer P2000. The computer uses the Z80 CPU, clocked to 2.5 MHz and integrates an RS232 interface that makes it popular with hobbyists. Only basic functionality is integrated in the ROM, an extension module is necessary for BASIC.
Built-in is a small cassette drive. The capacity of a cassette on which programs and data are stored is 42 KiB. The cassette drive behaves a little like a floppy drive with optional access, which allows the listing of the content and automatic search for a program.
The computer appears in versions P2000M and P2000T, where the difference lies in the video interface, and influences software compatibility. Only in the Netherlands there are significant sales of computers.
