STD SG ProgramPad 2 (SV-443)
Summary
Under the name ProgramPad (subtitled Digital Action Learning System), US company Recoton launched some controllers for the Sega Mega Drive/Mega CD under the trademark STD. The special feature of the controllers, also called “QJ” for “Quality Joystick”, is an LCD display and the programmability of click sequences or motion combinations; hence the name “program pad”. The series includes three devices:
- ProgramPad. Model SV-437. US device
- ProgramPad 2. Model SV-443. US device
- ProgramPad 6. Model SV-443. Device for the European market
The ProgramPad 2/6 is the “luxury” version, because 66 moves are pre-programmed for the games Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter 2 and eight other games (promoted with “Jam-Packed with moves for your favorite Games!”). He has six fire buttons, mirror function, can store six “programs”. The fire button assignment can be changed and the player can take off permanent fire and use slow motion.
In addition to the ProgramPad series, the SG ProPad series is available without LCD and without programming capability.
