SIMPad

Summary
Keith & Koep is developing the world’s first web pad at the beginning of the new millennium. Siemens will launch the SIMpad in 2001, with a selling price of USD 1500; Deutsche Telekom and Swisscom will distribute variants.
A 206 MHz StrongARM CPU powers the SIMPad. Its 8.4-inch TFT touchscreen has a resolution of 800 × 600 pixels. Most models have a 16-bit PC Card slot for accessing the World Wide Web using an external wireless network card. Some models have a built-in DECT modem. This early tablet has no keyboard.
By default, the operating system Windows CE is pre-installed, later models allow Windows CE.NET. Linux can be installed, for example on an external PCMCIA hard drive.
The first SIMPad SL4 model offers 64 MiB RAM and 32 MiB flash memory. Furthermore, the SIMPad has a USB, infrared and serial interface, has a headphone and microphone connection and a built-in mono speaker. The 2800 mAh lithium-ion battery keeps the device alive for about 4 hours.
