3D Imager
Summary
The 3D Imager is the first system for stereoscopic games. The glasses contain a rotating disc (included in the 3D games), half of which is blackened and thus only reveals the view through one of the two glasses. Because the glasses are connected to the Vectrex via the second controller connection, the monitor can be synchronized with the rotation of the disc. Each image is displayed twice slightly offset, which allows a 3D effect to be set when looking through the glasses.
The 3D imager is only available in the USA at the beginning of 1984. In addition to the enclosed game 3D Minestorm, there are two more 3D games. The after-effects of the videogame crash of 1983 mean that the Vectrex production is stopped only a few months later and only a comparatively small number of glasses are sold.
