Web.it Internet Computer

Summary

The Web.it from Web Computers International is a PC DOS 7/Windows 3.1 computer with AMD processor and pre-installed C-64 emulator. To move within the scope of legality, the company acquired the trademark rights of Tulip Computers NV (went bankrupt in 2009). (Tulip itself acquired the rights in September 1997 from the German ESCOM, which purchased the brand “Commodore” in 1995.) The built-in modem makes Internet access easily possible, software such as Netscape Navigator, Netscape Mail, Lotus 123 are pre-installed. With PCMCIA, TV and VGA output, modem and touchpad, the computer was well equipped, but the market did not accept the concept of an Internet computer. Since the embedded processor in particular struggled with the C-64 emulation, the computer quickly disappeared from the market. The company was registered in the Netherlands Antilles until 2004 (with an office in Antwerp), but then never again active. The AMD Elan SC405 66 CPU, often cited on the Internet, is completely unknown; for the AMD Elan SC400 processor family, however, there are Documentation. The integrated C-64 emulator is the http://www.ccs64.com/ by Per Håkan Sundell.
