Atari 5200

Summary
The Atari 5200 is the successor of the Atari 2600. Technically it corresponds to the home computers Atari 400 and 800, there are different connections for joysticks and the module port. The development of the technology began in 1978, but Atari preferred the emerging home computer market and initially used it for the home computers Atari 400 and 800.
When the Atari 5200 appeared in 1982, it was a commercial failure. This was due to the notoriously imprecise controllers, the lack of backward compatibility with Atari-2600 modules and the fact that games were technically better than their predecessors, but could not compete with direct competitors ColecoVision and Intellivision. After only two years Atari stopped production.
