Commodore SFD 1001

Summary
The SFD 1001 is a 5¼-inch floppy disk drive manufactured by Commodore in 1984 and 1985; it cost 300 dollars in the USA. Technically, it is a single-drive version of the dual-drive 8250, housed in a case resembling the 1541.
Otherwise, it has little in common with the 1541. The SFD 1001 writes both sides of a disk at a higher track density, storing 1,066,496 bytes in 4166 blocks. It connects through the parallel IEEE-488 interface found on PET and CBM computers; a C64 needs an adapter. The drive runs Commodore DOS 2.7 and cannot read disks written by the 1541.
