Electronic Touchdown

Summary

Electronic Touchdown by Sears Electronic Games is a licensed version of Colecos Electronic Quarterback. The handheld simulates an American football game, whereby there is no real gameplay or graphics in the actual sense, but only a spatial representation of the footballers by red LED lights. In addition to the position of the athletes, the score, the time and the current game status can also be read on the screen. The rules are simplified, with the focus on “kicking”, “running”, “passing” and “blocking”. These commands can usually be entered directly, since for “kick”, “pass” and “run” extra positions are available on the controller. In contrast to Mattel’s 1977 football handheld, the quarterback now has a run function and two blockers are available. In addition, the difficulty level (starter and pro) can be set by a switch and a two-player mode can be activated.
