THE 1000 COLLECTION

The PC Engine, a multifaceted exotic

The PC Engine is distributed in different countries under different names and partly completely different design. Also in terms of technology, the machines differ marginally from each other, so that games do not necessarily run on all members of this console family.

The original model holds a record as the smallest console. The games are also not delivered on large modules, but on so-called HUCards in check card size.

The co-production of electronics manufacturers NEC and game producer Hudson Soft is innovative in several ways, it is the first console with 16bit technology (but still contains an 8bit processor) and in 1988 the first console with CD-ROM extension.

The success of the PC engine varies greatly, depending on the region. In Japan it sells very well, in the USA it achieves a respect success (under the name TurboGrafx-16), in Europe it remains an exotic for a committed fan community.
