Coleco Pac-Man
Summary
Coleco’s Tabletop Mini-Arcade series, released from the early 80s, was very popular because it recreated the feeling of standing at a real arcade machine. The toys were particularly successful because Coleco secured licences for hit arcade games such as Pac-Man.
Coleco Pac-Man, one of the first of these games, will be a great success. At the time of the release of the Coleco version, Pac-Man is already one of the most popular games in the world; the Mini-Arcade sells over 1.5 million copies and is thus as successful as the Coleco adaptations of the games Galaxian, Donkey Kong and Frogger combined.
The design of the Coleco Pac-Man, as well as the other Coleco Mini-Arcades, is strongly based on the arcade versions. The illustrations are identical to those of the large machine, but the mini version does not have a tube monitor, but uses a vacuum fluorescent display.
