Philips VG-8010
Summary
The Philips VG-8010 is an 8-bit home computer and offers 2 module spaces, a moderate keyboard and strangely arranged cursor keys but no built-in datasette. The module slots are also necessary, because although the VG-8010 implements the MSX standard, but not strictly and so Cartridge’s hardware deficits need to be compensated. (Centronics is only available with Addon-Cartridge, but the MSX standard prescribes this.)The effective memory is lean with 32 KiB, but can be extended. This is also necessary, otherwise many MSX games don’t run, because most MSX computers offered 64 KiB. Like the VG-8000 (only 16 KiB RAM) it was produced in France. The computer was not particularly popular in Germany, since Commodore and Atari were already widespread and the Philips home computer was relatively expensive.
