Amstrad GX4000

Summary
The Amstrad GX4000 is a modified Amstrad CPC 6128+. Internally, mainly the layout of the board was changed to fit into the housing, externally missing the keyboard and some interfaces.
Despite favourable press coverage of its hardware, the console found few buyers. At £99, it cost considerably less than a home computer or many competing consoles. Its 25 games could not counter Nintendo’s and Sega’s brand strength, however, and Amstrad lacked the resources for adequate marketing. The GX4000 also could not match the existing 16-bit Amiga and Atari ST computers, let alone its direct competitor, the Sega Mega Drive, which launched in Europe two months later.
After only a few weeks the GX4000 was already offered at partly drastically reduced prices. Only an estimated 15,000 units were sold.
