Summary

Magnavox, the odyssey manufacturer, is purchased by Philips in 1974. Therefore, the Odyssey 2, the successor model of the legendary first home console, is sold in most countries under the name Philips Videopac.

The Videopac is a good example of the still blurred distinction between consoles and home computers. It contains a keyboard and can be extended to a computer. Your own programs can be stored on Datasette. The graphics of the console are comparatively weak. On the other hand, the The Voice extension, which is plugged on to the top of the console, allows crystal clear voice output. But it only appears in the USA.

There the sales of the Videopac remain far behind those of the Atari and the IntelliVision, but it is very successful in Europe and Brazil. 47 games appear until the console is replaced by the successor model Videopac+ G7400 in 1983.
