THE 1000 COLLECTION
Console2001

Panasonic Q (SL-GC10)

Summary

The Nintendo GameCube is launched in 2001, about five years after the introduction of the DVD. The Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) and Microsoft Xbox can play DVDs by default, but not the GameCube because it has only one drive for small mini DVDs.

The Panasonic Q (model number SL-GC10), also for short Q or GameQ, comes from a cooperation between Panasonic and Nintendo. It combines a GameCube console with a CD/DVD player. At the end of 2001, the Q will be released exclusively in Japan at a price of 39800 yen (approx. 350 €).

Special features of the Cube are its mirrored, silver front, blue-lit controller slots and the LCD screen on the top. Due to the high price and sluggish sales Panasonic stopped production after two years.
