Philips CD-i

Summary
Released in October 1991, the CD-i (Compact Disc Interactive) is a multimedia system developed mainly by Philips, with some involvement from Sony. Philips ultimately marketed the system alone. It plays interactive compact discs, audio CDs and several other formats. For a home video game console, it has disappointingly few “real” video games. Philips never convinced the public of its capabilities, and production ended in 1998 after Sony introduced the cheaper and more powerful PlayStation.
