Summary

When Nintendo decides to release Famicom in the USA, the video game market there is no longer existing. The experience of the video game crash has also led retailers and adults to show a corresponding mistrust of a new console.

Nintendo therefore directs the marketing of the Nintendo Entertainment System to children, as children have no preconceptions about video games. In order not to arouse associations with the failed machines of the second generation, the Famicom is redesigned and reminds in its new design as well as the mechanism for inserting the modules less of a console than of a video recorder, in addition Nintendo avoids terms such as “Console” or “Videogame”.

The strategy goes on: Nintendo becomes the market leader for years and Japan becomes the most important country in the video game industry. In America alone, 34 million NES are sold, a total of more than 60 million worldwide.
